Those of us who travel frequently, either on business or for pleasure, know that there are lots of inherent frustrations. From lost luggage to jet lag, heavy duty travelers have always experienced problems. But these days, one of the biggest sources of frustration for road warriors is dealing with roaming quality and expense concerns. When outside of the country, mobile phone users are faced with issues of poor quality when roaming and high costs. What is a world traveler to do?

One possible answer, according to a blog post by Alfred Siew at techgoondu.com, is to purchase a prepaid SIM card. On a recent trip to Australia, Siew bought a pre-paid SIM card for $15, and it was able to take care of his calling and Internet needs.

Siew picked up the card at the airport, and it came with unlimited calling and a week’s worth of unlimited bandwidth. For those of us who prefer to browse the Internet on our iPads, there is a tablet version available for $30, but it has data limitations.

The SIM card from Optus (News - Alert) proved to be just what he was looking for, and greatly cut down on what might have otherwise been a huge roaming bill. It also was able to address a lot of the roaming quality issues that consumers face when they are out of the country.
