Roaming is a common feature today, which contributes significantly to an operator’s revenue. Hence, any downtime or QoE issue can turn out to be costly to an operator while also impacting the brand name.
Consequently, a thorough knowledge of roaming performance in real time is critical for an operator’s business. That means, monitoring roaming performance on a 24×7 basis is becoming very crucial for an operator’s roaming business
A blog post on Roamware (News - Alert) site indicates there are two types of roamers — outbound and inbound. While outbound roamers usually do not come back and complain about their poor experience, inbound roamers have a choice of moving to another network. Hence, in order not to lose roaming revenue or customer satisfaction, it is very important for an operator to have a thorough knowledge of real-time roaming.
As per the blog post, the operator must know in real-time if there is a QoE issue. And the issue should be isolated to the extent that troubleshooting can take place in minutes and hours and not days.
The blog goes on to say that active monitoring of roamers and transactions gives the operator some meaningful insight into trends, real problems and failures, as well as the root cause of such failures. Furthermore, it shows that by identifying roaming trends in the network, the operator can minimize revenue loss from roamers not staying in the network.
According to the Roamware blog post, “as users become quality conscious, operators are quickly adapting common standards to measure roaming QoE.” For instance, the blog hints at the GSMA (News - Alert) Global Roaming Quality (GRQ) initiative which has offered common language to the operators to agree and measure SLAs on roaming QoE. Besides quickly identifying issues with Roaming, it also troubleshoots the problem via agreed information exchange format.
Roamware claims that it has helped operators measure roaming and international business performance, as well enabled them to isolate issues and related causes. The company said that it’s GRQ based Roaming QoE monitoring solution (RQM) has enabled networks across the world with deep real-time insights into their roaming performance.
