NovelSat, a provider of satellite optimization technology and services, announced the worldwide availability of its NS3 satellite transmission modulation technology.

NS3, according to NovelSat, increases satellite bandwidth by 20 percent to 55 percent over current DVB-S2 and DVB-S standards, respectively, for 36 MHz transponders. It also increases satellite bandwidth by up to 78 percent for 72Mhz transponders with the highest data rate of up to 358Mbps.

Through NS3, NovelSat brings a new set of upgrade options that exceeds DVB-S2's broadband efficiency capabilities. The technology is fully backwards compatible with the earlier generations of DVB-S and DVB-S2, so users get an option for a seamless transition, company officials said.

The company showcased the NS3 technology first at NAB 2011.

The timing of the launch of NovelSat’s new satellite optimization capability is perfect, especially when the world is preparing for global events unfolding in 2012. The London Olympics, Euro Cup, and the upcoming U.S. Presidential elections are a few among the major activities to be transmitted worldwide in HDTV and 3DTV in the coming year, demanding the most bandwidth capacity in history.

NS3 is built on cutting edge signal processing techniques. The company has proved that NS3 enhances spectral efficiency, through the physical testing of the technology with leading global customers, and over six satellites.

NovelSat's NS3 family of product lines includes a modulator, demodulator, modem and ASIC. The satellite optimization set allows transmission of more HDTV, SDTV and 3DTV channels, and data communication over an identical link budget and transponders.

NS3 provides same reception quality under lower SNR, which results in a smaller, and lighter antenna satellite coverage footprint by enabling same quality of service with 2-5 dB inferior reception. It also allows 37 percent faster download from LEO/Earth Observation Satellites.

The technology also brings 28 percent to 37 percent improvement in satellite data communication services while also supporting data rate of 358Mbps to be upgraded to 1Gbps over a 200 Mhz transponder.
