Chinese telecom heavyweight Huawei (News - Alert) Technologies has snagged itself an outstanding $71.2 million contract from Nepal Telecom through an international bidding, with plans to install almost 5 million GSM lines. The Chinese Equipment maker signed the agreement this week with Nepal’s state run telecom player for supply and installation of new lines.
As the country’s largest telecommunication company, Nepal is considering adding about 10 million GSM lines aimed at expanding its services nationwide. The agreement also requires Huawei to supply and install equipment, and commission the new lines throughout the next two years, as reported by Nepal Telecom officials.
The agreement is part of the telecom player mega project of the 10 million mobile lines for 2G, 3G, and 4G services.
In other news for the company, Dutch telecom and ICT service provider KPN (News - Alert) has selected Huawei for a business transformation program developed to replace multiple legacy IT business support system, which will include a single next-generation converged BSS solution for retail and wholesale markets in the Netherlands.
In even more Huawei news, it was announced just today that the company had to unfortunately delay its flagship Ascend D Quad handset once again, as the firm had encountered issues with its quad-core processor. Originally witnessed as the Ascend D Quad at MWC 2012 in February, Huawei claimed it was “the world’s fastest phone.” This statement, however, has been teetering on the edge of falsity since encountering these unexpected technical problems. It is now said that mass production of the company’s Ascend D Quad will commence in August, which means customers may not get their hands on it until the fall.
