Wireless carriers have to deal with an ever growing volume of SIM cards for various reasons. These reasons include market growth, maintaining a changing subscriber base, SIM-only deals, and SIM cards in a growing range of devices. Most carriers make use of a process where SIM cards are pre-provisioned in the network before shipping into distribution channels, but this process is severely pressurized, as SIM card volumes grow. Realizing this, a tier 1 operator in China has chosen Evolving Systems' (News - Alert) Dynamic SIM Allocation (DSA) solution.
When the customer's mobile phone is first used, Evolving Systems' patented Dynamic SIM Allocation solution provides an alternative to pre-provisioning, which facilitates the SIM cards to be activated. Any needed information is gathered from the customer via their mobile device, and decisions such as allocation of a phone number and selection of supported services are made at this point of first use.
“This is the fifth operator to select DSA in Asia, and the first in China. China presents enormous potential for Evolving Systems and DSA, and winning business here is strategically important to us," said Thad Dupper, CEO at Evolving Systems.
"Our entry into the China market resulted from operator generated interest in our DSA solution and follows the success we have achieved in other major wireless markets such as Brazil and Russia.”
Recently, the company’s Dynamic SIM Allocation solution was selected by a South East Asian carrier to assist in channelizing its SIM supply chain logistics, look after its number inventory and facilitate prepaid number selection. Evolving Systems' Dynamic SIM Allocation solution was chosen by the carrier for its ability to manage SIM cards and numbers more effectively. Here, leaving a larger pool of available numbers for customers to choose from, the number is chosen and given at point of sale.
