Symmetricom (News - Alert), a provider of precise time solutions, stated that it’s new SoftClocks embedded timing and synchronization solutions are designed for residential and enterprise small cells and is available in two versions, the SCr (residential) and SCe (enterprise).

According to Symmertricom, the new SCr 100, SCr 200, SCe 300 and SCe 400 SoftClocks are embedded software products supporting NTP, PTP and GPS. They are optimized for residential and enterprise small cells, providing reliable synchronization at low packet rates. The solutions are capable of leveraging existing hardware resources in the system design to support a variety of backhaul types and associated requirements.

“As small cells are rolled out in the different home, enterprise and public access domains, different synchronization solutions will be required to support them. Anything that can be done to simplify the deployment and operation of those different solutions provides a significant value proposition to the network operator”, remarked Patrick Donegan, senior analyst at Heavy Reading, in a press release.

Symmetricom asserted that the new timing and synchronization solutions can be installed by network operators with multiple types of backhaul and quality of service which improves end-user experience and minimizes customer churn. SoftClocks are also capable of integrating tightly with the existing processor and oscillator resources to create a cost effective solution.

Some of the notable features of SoftClocks are: timing solution tailored to wireless small cells at the network edge; packet timing engine for NTP and PTP synchronization protocols; high sensitivity indoor GPS; operates with other processor and middleware platforms; supports macro sniff implementations; and more.

The company also claimed that the SCr and SCe are the industry’s only software-based timing and synchronization solutions that flexibly meet the demands of all network topologies, thus preparing operators for any future network upgrades.
