Cavium, a provider of integrated semiconductor products, stated that its OCTEON Fusion will be used in the KT’s (News - Alert) commercial deployment of LTE small cell.

“Cavium’s Fusion processor platform offers a complete carrier grade LTE small cell solution with proven hardware and software supporting a large number of users and the demanding application requirements for multiuser small cells”, exclaimed Jean Choi, senior manager at KT, in a press release.

KT acknowledged that the OCTEON Fusion platform was selected for its robust interoperability and functionality. The Korean communication service provider will leverage the performance power of the OCTEON Fusion platform to successfully complete its LTE (News - Alert) small cell deployment.

Cavium explained that its OCTEON Fusion platform is a most powerful, small cell “Base Station-on-a-chip” solution that is specifically designed for LTE & 3G multi-mode small cell base stations, including picocell and micro base stations. The platform reportedly consists of multiple SoCs (system-on-a-chip) that enable small cells ranging from 32 users to 300 and more users and up to dual 20MHz carriers, delivering high-scalability.

Cavium claimed that it has already built a strong position in the wireless infrastructure market by establishing an excellent foothold in 3G/4G macro BTS/Core Network and the powerful OCTEON Fusion product line will enable it to further expand its market position in one of the highest growth areas of the infrastructure market.

The company added that KT has great expertise and experience in LTE Cloud-RAN small cell technology 'LTE WARP', which won the LTE Awards of LTE World Summit 2012. KT continues to demonstrate its leadership with this large scale commercial deployment of LTE small cell networks and Cavium is looking forward to supporting its new product development efforts.

In related news, KT recently licensed SPIRIT DSP’s TeamSpirit voice engine, and ARM (News - Alert) and Cavium extended relationship with ARMv8 architecture license.
