Look at any survey report on mobile data traffic that has recently been released – one fact jumps out in comparison –with so many devices and increasing consumer demand for high bandwidth applications, data traffic is expected to only grow and soar in the future.

Cellular networks are struggling to cope, the network infrastructure is stressed and carriers and operators are on the lookout for cost-effective strategies to provide excellent broadband experience for users to keep pace with demand. But, is there really a way out? Just ask Node-H GmbH.

Touted to be a pure-play small cells software company, Node-H has come up with an LTE small cell solution that can be combined with the company's existing HSPA+ to provide dual-mode cells. It is represented on the board of the small cells forum.

The LTE (News - Alert) solution is stated to be a cost-effective way to increase indoor coverage and capacity with existing devices for a range of deployment scenarios, from residential and small business to large enterprise settings.

LTE small-cell deployments are a popular long-term strategy because they provide the capacity boost needed and the flexibility and compact form factor needed in high-traffic environments.

Deployed worldwide by carriers and having been tested with multiple network equipment ecosystem vendors, the Node-H HSPA+ solution is stated to have increased capacity and data rates for all users in the cell with every evolution.

Further, the Node-H LTE software runs on the new LTE System-on-a-Chip solutions and will initially support 150Mbps downlink and 50Mbps uplink. The solution leverages the existing Node-H small cells technology.

Operators are rolling out LTE coverage using traditional macro-cells, outdoor small cells, enterprise small cells and residential femtocells in order to ensure that data is delivered efficiently everywhere.

Initially, LTE small cells solution will be deployed in densely populated urban areas overlaid on the 3G and evolved 3G networks, while voice services and data service to subscribers outside LTE coverage will be delivered by 3G.

According to Strategy Analytics (News - Alert), the next generation small cells will match the challenge of mobile broadband traffic growth through 2017 with new capacity, premium data coverage and dynamic load management across multiple wireless access networks.
