Tata Elxsi, a global innovation and technology services company, has revealed the successful completion of live demo of LTE (News - Alert) eNodeB software suite using the LTE EPC Emulators from Polaris Networks.

The demo was showcased at Tata Elxsi’s Japan office between April and June 2012. The three-month long LTE node test in Japan has enabled Tata Elxsi (News - Alert) to demonstrate the small cell solution to its customers in Japan, which generated considerable interest.

“Customers require fully integrated and well-tested software to enable their small cell deployment plans, and our association with Polaris has helped ensure our LTE small cell solution is well-tested and proven not only with third party UE but also the network side. Their ongoing support has been excellent,” said Nitin Pai, vice president of Marketing, Tata Elxsi, in a statement.

Polaris Networks’ (News - Alert) Emulators are used for various nodes of the LTE Network including the eNodeB, MME, SGW and PGW. They have been extensively used by Tata Elxsi at its R&D center in Bangalore for testing the functionality and performance of its LTE Small Cell software.

Among the LTE emulators, the MME, SGW and PGW Emulators provide a complete EPC simulation that software vendors and base station manufacturers use for testing the LTE eNodeB. The EPC Emulators also include HSS and PCRF functions in addition to supporting features like ‘Closed Subscriber Group’ (CSG) and over-the-air provisioning, which are specifically useful for testing LTE small cell or Home eNodeB.

Tata Elxsi’s LTE small cell software suite supports several SoC-based implementations including L1, L2/L3 and radio integration. The L2/L3 protocol stack is specially designed for Small Cell functionality and has several improvements and optimization to suit System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture requirements.

“As Operators worldwide continue to view small cells as vital to managing the LTE spectrum more efficiently in comparison with macrocells, Tata Elxsi’s LTE Small Cell software goes a long way in helping base station manufacturers bring LTE Femtocells (News - Alert) to the market faster,” added Aditya Saraf, VP, Sales and Marketing at Polaris Networks.

Tata Elxsi is a third-party software IP provider for 3GPP LTE and Mobile WiMAX (News - Alert) standards with 20+ design wins including three femtocell designs with Tier-1 OEMs.
