Ubiquisys, a developer of intelligent small cells, recently announced that ABI Research (News - Alert) has ranked the company as the number one access point vendor for enterprise and residential small cells. Ubiquisys edged past Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) and ip.access to take the top spot.

Ubiquisys provides high-availability small cells that continuously adapt to their surroundings and dynamically interact with their neighbors. Operators benefit from macro-level KPIs, low operating costs and efficient use of spectrum assets, whilst mobile users experience dependable voice and high speed data services. The Ubiquisys (News - Alert) small cell range includes public-access hotspots, self-organizing networks for enterprise and modular residential small cells designed for home device integration.

"We`re delighted that ABI Research has recognized our continued leadership at a time when small cells are becoming a central part of the new mobile architecture," said Chris Gilbert, CEO Ubiquisys. "Harmonizing Wi-Fi, LTE (News - Alert) and 3G, our latest modular products prove that small cells can improve performance, reduce operational costs and bring cloud applications closer to mobile users."

Meanwhile, a recent report said that CloudBerry and Ubiquisys are reportedly working together on a new managed service offering that enables any mobile operator to deploy small cell networks. Small cell technology is designed to support mobile phone services in buildings, where the construction limits the amount of signals that can pass through walls and floors. The increasing demand of businesses to switch to mobile solutions is fueling the need to boost signal quality for both types of networks, and small cell networks can support both.

The two will be combining Ubiquisys’ intelligent small cell technology with CloudBerry’s experience in handling self-organizing networks. CloudBerry’s services offer businesses the ability to enhance their existing networks with a small cell SON, installed by a contractor and completely managed by CloudBerry. This allows business to buy a one-step solution to improving their mobile network quality within their building.
