Recently, it was revealed that the NEC (News - Alert) Corporation is showcasing some of its small cells solutions at the Small Cells World Summit 2013.The company also announced it has been shortlisted for the Small Cell Forum Industry Awards in the residential femtocell access point design and technology innovation category for its Broadband Wireless Super Home Hub.

One of the solutions on display at the conference is NEC’s small cells for homes and offices. Ideally designed for residential, SOHO, SME and hotspot environments, these robust solutions can be used in single standalone mode or in multiple-unit, self-configuring and self-optimizing grid configurations to deliver higher area coverage and/or higher capacities.

Also, currently being showcased is the Small Cell Enterprise Radio Access Network   (E-RAN) system from NEC enables mobile operator-managed mobile access and services system for medium to large enterprise customers to be deployed rapidly in days or weeks, compared with months or years for costly and complex Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS). NEC’s LTE (News - Alert) microcell is at the event as well, highlighted for seamlessly integrating a baseband unit with a remote radio head in a single unit. The compact and lightweight base station offers the SON-based plug-and-play feature where base stations are automatically self-configured after being switched on at each site. It reduces installation time and associated costs.

NEC offers a fully-managed, end-to-end service to operators to ensure that service/customer satisfaction levels and KPIs are maximized. Additionally, it powers CAPEX, mixed CAPEX/OPEX (News - Alert) or even full OPEX installation, pilot, and customer deployment plans to fit with operators’ business requirements.

“NEC has been a pioneer in the adoption of small cell technology, with many contracts and field trials with leading operators globally,” said Martin Guthrie, head of Business Development for Small Cells, NEC Europe, in a statement. “Now, we have a comprehensive set of small cell solutions for the residential, enterprise and public segments, which are designed to relieve the challenges operators are facing in terms of coverage and traffic volumes.”
