Softswitches, the central device in the telecommunications network designed to connect phone calls, can work in wired or wireless environments, as they are highly malleable and designed to work with almost any telecommunications system.
With a softswitch’s small and convenient size, they easily replace large, expensive switchboards and crowded rooms of staff members.
REDCOM (News - Alert), manufacturer of innovative telecommunications systems, offers a variety of softswitches and recently added a new member to its SLICE family of products, the SLICE 2100 Micro.
The new product packs the communications power of REDCOM’s SLICE 2100 into a box as small as a hardcover book. The SLICE 2100 Micro provides maximum interoperability in a compact package: it’s powered by REDCOM’s TRANSip VoIP technology suite, which offers a simple, fully integrated VoIP solution that is easy to configure and install, together with an integrated media gateway, media gateway controller, SIP call controller and legacy support.
The SLICE family of products currently includes SLICE, SLICE IP Micro and SLICE IP. The SLICE is a small, self-contained switching system, designed to serve as an integrated communications platform, providing a flexible, portable and reliable Class 4/5 switch in a single 1U platform. The SLICE IP is an advanced Class 4/5 softswitch core powered by TRANSip, integrated key IP multimedia subsystems (IMS) elements, delivering call management functionality and directory services for IP subscribers. By integrating key IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS) elements and call management functionality into the size of a hardcover book, the SLICE IP Micro puts all the power of a REDCOM SLICE IP into your hands.
The SLICE 2100 functions as both a softswitch and gateway, delivering up to 2,000 IP registered subscribers per unit. It also functions as a Local Session Controller (LSC), delivering extensive unified communications capabilities to government and defense communicators, including modem over IP and fax over IP, integrated SIP call manager and media gateway, support for AS-SIP (UC) requirements, and IPv4/IPv6 dual stack.
With its small size, the advanced carrier-class 4/5 softswitch for telecom service providers is ideal for essential portable applications such as deployment to military communication shelters, remote encampments and tent cities. When packaged in its ruggedized carrying case, the SLICE 2100 Micro still fits in the overhead compartments of small commercial aircraft.
REDCOM also offers products and services to telecom providers, utilities, mining and exploration and emergency response companies.
