By Amanda Ciccatelli TMCnet Web Editor
Teletouch Communications, Inc., a wireless services, cellular, consumer electronics and public safety equipment distributor, has appointed Timmy Monico as VP of Sales for its distribution unit, PCI (News - Alert) Wholesale.
A more than 30 year veteran of the distribution and wireless industries, Monico brings a unique background to Teletouch. As the VP of Sales for CellStar (News - Alert) USA, Monico was successful in building sales teams and channels that generated revenue in excess of $750 million annually. In his role at Teletouch, Monico will be managing PCI Wholesale's sales teams, national accounts and distribution channels.
"Timmy brings a broad perspective and deep experience to our sales organization. With his extensive and intimate knowledge of the U.S. wireless carrier and related retail markets, as well as capability in building dealer sales channels and successful management structures, Timmy's skills will play a key role in expanding our distribution sales, both domestically and internationally," said T. A. "Kip" Hyde, Jr., president and COO of Teletouch.
After leaving CellStar in 2006, Monico has held top management positions at InfoSonics (News - Alert) Corp, Aerovoice Wireless, and most recently at Datawind, Ltd., a developer of affordable wireless Web access services, where he was responsible for establishing global operations for the distribution and sales of low-cost PC tablets.
Monico said, "Operators and retailers of all sizes are seeking new sources of revenue and increased customer loyalty, but at lower costs. There is a real opportunity today to better serve smaller carriers, MVNE's, larger retailers and even the Tier-1 carriers' indirect retail channels, with higher levels of service, great products and value-added distribution capabilities - all at competitive prices.”
It was also recently reported that Teletouch is expanding its wholesale distribution segment, with the expectation that this business unit will become Teletouch's primary earnings driver by the end of fiscal year 2015. Since the company's litigation with AT&T (News - Alert) was concluded in November, 2011, Teletouch has executed distribution agreements with several cellular accessory and handset manufacturers, and mobile electronics companies.
