Eltek Valere (News - Alert), a provider of high efficiency power systems, just unveiled its new 48VDC battery distribution fuse bay (BDFB) at Battcon 2011. This new, innovative distribution bay allows for a continuous power supply, specifically designed for large telecom networks and wireless mobile telephone switching offices (MTSOs), and is fully NEBS compliant.
The 48VDC BDFB offers many different types of load busses and fuse options and it has the functionality to be configured as a single bus bay or equipped with up to six separate load busses, depending upon what is needed. Both fuses and circuit breakers are easily configurable. The BDFB has a capacity of 600A per bus at -48V, delivering a maximum total current capacity of 3600A, according to a press release.
“The growth in mobile broadband applications and cloud computing is driving the need for higher power in networks, and that results in more demand for battery backup for increased reliability,” said David Leal, Eltek Valere’s vice president of North American sales. “Our new BDFB brings a new level of flexibility, remote management and control to these applications.”
The ability to both constantly monitor and control the BDFB is very important for high reliability and instances of maintenance operations. The Eltek Valere Smartpack2 controller is the foundation of this new distribution bay, which offers remote and local access to system data; programmable settings and alarming; and monitoring, the release stated. In addition, a color display panel shows an always updated version of how much load voltage and current is being utilized on each bus. The Smartpack2 controller’s programming capabilities also enables custom alarm threshold values and alarm grouping through both remote and local access.
An alarm battery supply (ABS (News - Alert)) also come with this new product which powers a back-up alarm and controller access, in case at any time power is lost. The ABS possesses redundant alarming, so power is always flowing to the alarm circuits until the last bus no longer has power available. Also, an audible alarm is included with an easily adjustable on/off feature.
The BDFB is simple and is 15 inches deep by 7 feet tall, with optional 2- and 4-foot extensions and was created to support either top- or bottom-feed cabling.
The BDFB either comes with two, four or six input feeds, each equipped with 800-amp shunts. From the ground up, this product has been configured to meet or exceed NEBS, UL and CSA requirements.
