Winchester Systems, a data storage solutions provider offering NEBS-compliant solutions, has just launched two new network attached storage (NAS) solutions: FlashNAS FN-1200 Series and FlashNAS FN-1500 Series.
The FlashNAS FN-1200 Series is powered by Intel (News - Alert) LV5128, while the FlashNAS FN-1500 Series is a high speed NAS powered by single or dual Intel Xeon 3470 quad-core processors.
Both NAS products are available as "gateways" with storage-based FlashDisk RAID disk arrays with embedded RAID controllers or as "appliances" with server-based EcoStore RAID disk arrays that use internal PCIe RAID controllers, company officials said.
FlashNAS FN-1200 supports large storage capacities of up to 336 TB for SMB and departmental NAS applications. The FN-1500 model is a high performance NAS built on a 1U carrier-clas, NEBS-3 compliant server that is designed to MIL-STD-810G standards, and supports 772 TB of storage.
"Now many IT managers can economically deploy a large scale, high performance NAS to provide both NAS and SAN storage to many servers on their network," said Joel Leider, Winchester Systems chief executive officer, in a statement. "FlashNAS delivers NAS and SAN storage at a fraction of the cost of many popular offerings.”
Since FlashNAS supports both NAS files and storage area network (SAN) volumes in one unit using embedded Microsoft (News - Alert) Unified Storage Services (USS), it can greatly reduce storage costs. Both FlashNAS models offer 4 GbE ports native and offer PCIe expansion for additional Fibre Channels including SAS (News - Alert) or iSCSI storage, so storage can be easily tiered for primary and secondary applications.
By supporting snapshots Volume Shadow Services (VSS), FlashNAS can save storage space with file-level de-duplication using Single Instance Storage (SIS). FlashNAS with Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 is optimized for file serving and delivers 30 percent higher performance than a standard Windows server.
The RAID 6 dual parity feature provides a high level of data protection for valuable data. Even if two disk drives fail or become unreadable, the data will remain intact, a press release from the company revealed.
Winchester Systems provides high performance FlashDisk data storage and NEBS-compliant servers and system integration services for VMware, CA (News - Alert) ARCserve Replication, Windows, Linux and UNIX platforms as well as Windows, Linux and Oracle Clusters.
In June, Winchester Systems announced the availability of FlashDisk VX-3460 Series RAID disk arrays for 10 GbE networks. The FlashDisk VX-3464R RAID disk array offers dual controllers with four 10 GbE ports and virtual tiered storage to 336 TB with a base unit and six expansion shelves.
