RF Code Offers NEBS-Compliant Asset Tracking and Environmental Monitoring Solutions

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

RF Code, a provider of ASHRAE- and IT asset management and wire-free environmental & power monitoring solutions, has just released the latest versions of its NEBS-compliant asset tracking and environmental monitoring solutions.

Both Asset Manager and Sensor Manager are enhanced with new features designed to reduce the time and cost of tracking, as well as the managing of IT assets and the environments in which they reside. The platforms are compliant with ASHRAE and NEBS standards.

“NEBS” stands for “Network Equipment Building Systems.” NEBS specifications deal with power management, electrical shielding, disaster preparation and hardware interfaces. Most equipment must be NEBS-certified before it can be integrated into carrier facilities.

RF Code’s NEBS-certified solutions are enhanced with advanced event notification and configurable visual dashboards to display key asset and environmental data. Notifications are sent when an event, such as the movement of an asset, needs to trigger a consequent action by a third party application such as a work order system.

Asset Manager also provides GPS reader support, making it possible to track, in real-time, assets in mobile locations such as trucks and ships. RF Code's M250 reader now supports a Garmin (News - Alert) GPS device, which provides real-time GPS data to the reader.

The Sensor Manager is enhanced with Ancis’s Rack Cooling Index (RCI) and Rack Return Index (RTI) performance metrics. These are complementary metrics for understanding data center air management: IT cooling (reliability) and CRAC efficiency.

Expressed as percentages, RCI is a measure of compliance with ASHRAE or NEBS intake temperature guidelines, while RTI is a measure of net by-pass or net recirculation air. By incorporating these metrics, Sensor Manager helps provide data that will sustain optimal IT equipment reliability and avoid overcooling, according to company officials.

The latest software versions are provided with powerful dashboards, which can display summary data in a variety of user-chosen graphical formats. With the help of user-friendly widgets, users can easily create standard dials, LED dials, LCD displays, graphs, bar charts, asset grids, and more to display aggregated data that all internal users can view.

"The need for absolute accuracy around a company's IT asset inventory is emerging as a top priority for leading companies while the need for critical environmental and power monitoring data is already top-of-mind for today's data center managers,” said Chris Gaskins, vice president of product development at RF Code, in a statement.

“We're meeting these twin challenges with an open approach that lets customers take advantage of our solutions in a way that meets their needs: as standalone solutions or integrated into their existing DCIM, EAM, ERP, BMS, help desk or other systems,” Gaskins added.
