Dot Hill in Pact with Phoenix International Systems to Deliver NEBS-Compliant Storage Solutions

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Dot Hill Systems, a provider of NEBS Level 3 and MIL SPEC 810F/G- compliant  iSCSI and Fibre Channel storage solutions, has just signed an OEM agreement with Phoenix International Systems, a manufacturer of rugged commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) data storage systems for military, aerospace, telecommunications, utilities and process control industries.

According to Inese Lanka, senior director of sales - North America, for the federal sector at Dot Hill Systems, the agreement with Phoenix International is the latest validation of Dot Hill's capabilities in ruggedized storage for military applications.

Under the terms of the partnership, Dot Hill will integrate its 3000 Series RAID controller technology with Phoenix International's storage solutions. The solution will be deployed in Northrop Grumman's Joint Surveillance Target (News - Alert) Attack Radar System (JSTARS) program and Boeing's Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) platform, company officials said.

Phoenix International is an incumbent supplier to the JSTARS program. JSTARS tracks ground vehicles and some aircraft, collects imagery, and relays tactical pictures to ground and air theater commanders.

Dot Hill’s NEBS -compliant storage solutions are designed to meet the most rugged requirements. Phoenix International will be using Dot Hill 8Gb Fibre Channel RAID controller technology to deliver improved storage management and performance in support of its long-range, air-to-ground surveillance system designed to locate, classify and track ground targets in all-weather conditions.

In addition to ground surveillance, Phoenix International is also supporting Boeing's (News - Alert) AWACS platform. AWACS provides surveillance, command-and-control, and communications functions for tactical and defensive missions. The platform is used by the U.S. Air Force, NATO, the United Kingdom, France, and Saudi Arabia.

"Dot Hill technology is field proven in a variety of ruggedized storage applications and the Dot Hill 3000 Series' 8Gb Fibre Channel and 6Gb SAS (News - Alert) interfaces deliver the bandwidth and performance we need for today's sophisticated JSTARS and AWACS storage environments," said Amos Deacon III, president, Phoenix International, in a statement.

Recently, TMCnet reported that Dot Hill announced that Stratus Technologies (News - Alert) has selected the Dot Hill 3000 Series next-generation storage platform for its ftScalable storage line. Dot Hill storage solutions offered by Stratus scale to support up to 72 SAS or nearline SAS disk drives, totaling up to 72 terabytes (TB) of capacity based on today's 1 TB disk drive capacities and feature a 2U 24-drive rackmount footprint, company officials said. The NEBS-compliant storage solutions from Dot Hill Systems address the continuous availability data management requirements of multiple companies.
