Telecom Platform Deployment: Radisys Unveils ATCA Product based on Cavium Processor

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Radisys, a provider of telecom platform deployment solutions and partner of NEI, has just launched the AdvancedTCA product based on the capacities of networking chipmaker Cavium Neuron Search Processor (News - Alert).

The advanced ATCA-7240 enables these capacities to reduce power consumption while accelerating TEMs when utilizing the Radisys ATCA platforms, company officials said. ATCA-7240 is a full-duplex 40G packet processing module that provides a line-rate service for applications such as Serving Gateways (SGW), Session Border Control (SBC), Security Gateways, DPI, Edge Routers, Media Gateways and Mobility Management Entity (MME) network elements found in the LTE (News - Alert) Evolved Packet Core (EPC).

ATCA-7240 offers parallel search and packet data transfer capacities and has the ability to offload L2-L4 Access Control List (ACL) and Longest Prefix Match (LPM) lookups from the data processing blocks. The solution also helps to accelerate search requirements and make the ATCA-7240 a suitable fit for networking applications such as packet classification, access list control and intrusion detection.

According to NEI (News - Alert), ATCA solutions offer increased mobility. “With mobile traffic projected to increase thirty nine times from 2009 figures by the year 2014, wireless carriers need to function more like landline broadband networks, with greater speeds and more consistent connectivity,” officials at NEI commented.

Back in June, Radisys, SURF Communication Solutions and Adax (News - Alert) announced a collaborative effort to yield an important NEBS-ready tool crucial to the migration to LTE - CSFB (Circuit Switched Fallback). This solution will be given to a major APAC provider of wireless solutions, according to company officials.
