Prodrive Selects IDT RapidIO Gen2 Switches to Elevate Performance Levels within Telecom Platform Deployments

Prodrive has recently chosen the IDT CPS-1848 and CPS-1616 Gen 2 RapidIO switches powered by Integrated Device Technology (News - Alert), Inc. due to the innovative capabilities that will help in the transition to next generation AdvancedTCA (ATCA) carrier and switch cards, thus continuing to drive telecom platform deployment.

Why did Prodrive decide on these particular switches? According to company officials, many important functions of the telecom platform deployment solution led to the decision, such as throughput, latency, jitter performance, quality of service and overall system power utilization.

"After extensive embedded technology analysis, we chose IDT's RapidIO (News - Alert) switches as the interconnect backbone for the multi-endpoint system in our peer-to-peer network. IDT's solution provided more than double the bandwidth of Ethernet, low and deterministic latency, low power, and excellent software scalability -- all of which are critical to our ATCA customer base," Pieter Janssen, CEO at Prodrive said in a statement. "We have already delivered high quality ATCA Systems to the market with RapidIO 1.3 and moving to RapidIO Gen2 is a natural evolution for our customers. RapidIO allows them to deliver solutions to the end markets that surpass anything that is possible with 10 GbE."

Boasting a 256 byte maximum payload size and low overhead that allows for 95 percent protocol efficiency, RapidIO can power about twice the performance that typical 10 GbE solutions provide. In addition, RapidIO solutions can be attained at a cost-effective price and use a reduced amount of power. According to a press release, the IDT S-RIO switch offers 20 Gbps of bandwidth per link, 100 ns cut through latency, 240 Gbps of non-blocking switch performance, and built-in transmission functionality.

Look out for the next-generation Prodrive RapidIO-based PRIOC-G2 (News - Alert) ATCA carrier blade and PSRSB-G2 switching products that will available for purchase early next year.
