Telecom Platform Deployment Greening Approach Outlined

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

When it comes to telecom platform deployment, NEI (News - Alert) recently posted a blog noting that ISO 14001 is a performance excellence model for environmental management.

Environmental responsibility is becoming more important to lots of companies these days, as organizations see that they can help to improve the current condition of their plants by utilizing greener technologies.

Still, there remains a good amount of considerations for OEMs. How well your strategic partners control their environmental impact should be a consideration, NEI officials say, noting that “it is a reflection of your commitment to your brand.” They mention other benefits, such as improved delivery and quality, which the post calls “a direct result of continual improvement efforts and focus.”

Company officials give an example of what they’re talking about for the benefit of telecom platform deployment managers. A simple, cost-effective program would include defining environmental impacts and setting targets to reduce waste and cost, managing suppliers to drive responsible behaviors, maintaining operational control of waste, anticipating legislative changes that can impact costs and deliverability to customers, and continually improving the system.

NEI had quite the year in 2011, working with telecom equipment manufacturers to ensure they have the tools needed to develop, support and deploy multiple, complex technologies at a cost-effective price, according to TMCnet.

“Dominating the market this year in the telecom space was the transition to 40G, the expansion of LTE (News - Alert) and 4G rollouts,” NEI officials said at the end of 2011. As the ATCA ecosystem continues to move to support 40GE solutions, NEI has remained ahead of the competition by supporting switches, single board computers and pocket processing blades with 40GE connectivity.
