Telecom Platform Deployment: Broadband MEA 2012 Summit to Address Rural Broadband Challenges

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Connectivity in rural areas continues to be a daunting task for governments across the globe. In order to overcome these challenges, the upcoming Rural Broadband Summit at Broadband MEA will be exploring opportunities and innovations to address these broadband deployment obstacles in rural markets.

Rural Broadband Summit 2012 is scheduled to be held on March 25, 2012, at the Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina in Dubai. The event will provide stakeholders with a platform to discuss and analyze the key issues surrounding telecom platform deployment scenarios in emerging rural markets.

The event will be chaired by Richard Jones, partner at the Ventura Team. Jones said in a statement, "The Rural Broadband Summit is incredibly important as an event as it deals with the unserved and under-served parts of the market - the parts that need attention to avoid the creation of digital divides and to support the rural economies."

An important speech by Imad Y. Hoballah, acting chairman, CEO and head of the Telecommunications Technologies Unit of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Lebanon, will delve deep into the importance of working towards an efficient ICT sector policy to improve broadband penetration in these areas. Hoballah’s presentation will address licensing obligations, development of local content and applications, and technology innovations utilized in fast rural broadband deployment.

In addition, leading analysts will also be at the event to explore trends around broadband connectivity in Africa, while also debating the technology choices available to improve rural broadband and rural network sharing.

Rural Broadband Summit is sponsored by The Kenton Group, a provider of network access solutions.  John Larkin, managing director of the company is a key speaker at the event and will be highlighting the potential of copper networks in enabling broadband connectivity in rural markets within the region.

Some other notable speakers include Jaume Salvat, CEO of Andorra Telecom, and Jayhun Mollazade, CEO at AzQtel, as well as a host of high level government and industry executives including Nima PourNejatian, chief technology officer at MobinNet Telecom Co. (MTC); Ntokozo Khumalo, African business producer at ETV; and Labib Matta, senior partner at Next Gen Advisory Group.
