Mercury Computer Systems Enhances Telecom Platform Deployment with New Partnership

By Deepika Mala, TMCnet Contributor

Even in current economic conditions, the telecom platform deployment industry has continued to expand at a substantial rate. The past couple of years have seen a rise in the demand for single, integrated telecom platform deployment solutions.

Recently, Mercury Computer Systems, Inc., a company within this growing industry, inked a partnership with a telecommunications provider. Under the terms of this contract, Mercury will be responsible for delivering an integrated signal processing subsystem based on the ATCA standard.

Officials said that Mercury Computer Systems, through its high performance subsystem and ground-based gateway, will enable vital communications for a next-generation mobile satellite system, which can be used for national security, civilian and humanitarian efforts.

The subsystem also offers massive processing power and manufacturing readiness, reduces costs, and shortens development cycles. Because it is based on open standards, the solution can be easily upgraded over time.

In a press release, Didier Thibaud, senior vice president and general manager of Mercury Computer Systems' Advanced Computing Solutions business unit, said, "Mercury has forged a very close relationship with this company, working on a range of telecommunications systems and similar programs over a long period of time. Our solutions are known for their maturity, reliability and performance, and our team has earned a reputation for our commitment to supporting the performance goals and ultimate success."

Based on the ATCA and RapidIO (News - Alert) standards, Mercury designs and integrates high performance signal processing subsystems. The company’s ATCA-based platform implements hundreds of digital signal processors which are interconnected by the RapidIO switch fabric to deliver high bandwidth, low latency and deterministic performance.
