Emerson Network Power Demonstrates Telecom Deployment Solution at MWC 2012

By Deepika Mala, TMCnet Contributor

Recently, Emerson Network Power (News - Alert), a provider of telecom platform deployment solutions, showcased its ATCA-based telecom server blade at Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) 2012 in Barcelona, Spain.

Due to the functionality powered by the ATCA-based telecom server blade, network operators will be able to see multiple cost and efficiency benefits of 'workload consolidation' with much simpler and faster network security.

Implemented on the latest Intel (News - Alert) architecture processors, this telecom platform deployment solution will allow operators to make much better use of network infrastructure.

To demonstrate an implementation of workload consolidation and network security on its new 40G ATCA processor blade using the next-generation communications platform from Intel, Emerson Network has collaborated with premier software suppliers like Wind River (News - Alert) and Sensory Networks.

Today, Intel architecture devices are commonly used for management and control processing tasks. However, separate packet processing operations applied to network traffic are also essential for the delivery of appropriate service levels to different packet types, as well as to comply with the license terms applied by regulators.

These operations are traditionally performed by separate packet processing blades which do not use Intel architecture processors. Because of this, network operators are required to commission, install and support two separate types of processor blade.

However, the ultra-high performing 40G ATCA blade from Emerson has the capability to perform both control and packet processing operations at very high speed, fully supports data rates on and off the blade of up to 80Gbps, helps network operators to streamline business operations, and significantly expands network capacity.

TMCnet first reported that Emerson Power Network would be taking place in Mobile World Congress at the end of February. At the time, Stephen Dow, president of Emerson Network Power's Embedded Computing business said, "Emerson Network Power ATCA blades based on the next-generation communications platform from Intel will offer the telecom industry greater flexibility in their equipment deployments, enabling the provision of more and more valuable subscriber services at lower cost."
