HP Unveils Mobility Platform for Telecom Service Providers in India

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

HP, a provider of enterprise computing solutions and a variety of platforms for telecom solutions deployment, announced the launch of a new mobility platform for mobile service providers in India. The mobility platform will benefit telecom providers in India, as it helps them support employees’ use of mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

The HP Enterprise Mobility platform enables enterprises to provide internal mobile applications to employees, according to a news report in Telecom Lead. This telecom platform deployment solution allows mobile service providers to manage mobility services for their own employees, including the development and distribution of new apps.

"CSPs must invent new business models to win in a 4G world. HP's offering enables CSPs to generate new revenue by helping enterprises tap the productivity potential of smartphones and tablets used by employees," said Yugan Sikri, product manager, Business Solutions, Communications Media and Entertainment, HP Enterprise Services.

As part of this initiative, HP is offering an Enterprise Mobile App Store that enables operators to help enterprises create, certify, and distribute company apps for employees. The App Store is hosted at the CSP site and managed for the enterprise.

HP also offers an Enterprise Mobility Gateway (News - Alert) to telecom operators to help enterprise employees access the right enterprise data by connecting mobile applications with an enterprise's back-end systems.

"Service providers are at a point where they need an enterprise service delivery platform, not just a telco service delivery platform. It makes sense to work with a partner like HP that has both telco and IT heritage and can bring the two worlds together," said Glen Ragoonanan, lead analyst, Infrastructure Solutions and SDP Strategies, Analysys (News - Alert) Mason.

Based on a flexible service-oriented architecture, the enterprise mobility platform allows telecom companies to adapt the core HP components to suit specific, complex needs, as well as to integrate other HP and third-party solutions to further enhance functionality. The HP Enterprise Mobility platform will be sold directly to enterprises by HP, as an on-premises solution.

A recent blog post from telecom platform deployment solutions provider, NEI (News - Alert), says carriers are making the decision to invest heavily in infrastructure to increase revenue and lower bid costs. As the adoption of more mobile devices takes place every day, according to the news item, the traffic growth is helping to push new platform deployments.
