ADLINK Introduces 6U CompactPCI Processor Blade for Telecom Applications

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

ADLINK has long been known as one of the biggest companies in the world when it comes to computer processor blades and the like. As of late, the company has been working hard on releasing its best-in-class line of ATCA processor blades that work in conjunction with telecom platform deployments, just launching the revamped 6U CompactPCI (News - Alert) processor blade.

The processor blade is designed specifically for server-grade embedded computing applications that are not only used more often in telecommunications, but are also prevalent in data communications and security.  The blade, called the cPCI-6930, has an Intel (News - Alert) Xeon 1.8 GHz eight-core processor E5-2448L. It also comes equipped with an Intel C604 chipset, as well as DDR3-1333 ECC registered memory that has a top capacity of 48 gigabytes.

ADLINK’s newest processor blade also comes equipped with units for easy upgrade including on-card connectivity that has four front panel Gigabit Ethernet egress ports. It also boasts four gigabytes soldered SATA NAND flash and an optional bootable CompactFlash socket. The Taiwanese company says that this particular processor blade includes optional SAS (News - Alert)/SATA direct connectors, which make it possible to use an onboard 2.5-inch drive.

The four front panel Ethernet ports make this one of the best new processors on the market because of their high-speed data transfer capabilities. The addition of Intel Hyper-Threading Technology allows the processor blade to operate in the most efficient way possible. It can run data on several different threads at one time, which the company says will increase the throughput for the blade.

Lastly, the next-generation solution contains a number of other onboard I/O including VGA port, two USB 3.0 ports and three USB 2.0 ports.
