Huawei (News - Alert), a provider of telecom equipment and technology that supports telecom platform deployments around the world, has recently been selected by Movicel in Angola and Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) in Namibia.
Both Movicel and MTC leverage Huawei’s microwave technologies to support their next-generation LTE (News - Alert) backhaul networks. Movicel and MTC will be the first two operators to provide commercial LTE services in Africa.
“Huawei will continue to play an active role in building Africa’s telecommunications infrastructure,” said Qi Feng, general manager of Huawei’s microwave business, in a statement. “As Africa’s commercial LTE industry accelerates, Huawei’s IP microwave solution serves as a strategic engine for its mobile broadband development.”
Under the partnership, Huawei will install its advanced UMTS/LTE-ready IP microwave solution for the LTE backhaul networks to support enhanced data services. Huawei’s LTE telecom platform deployment solution supports up to two gigabits a second.
The deal demonstrates that Huawei is becoming a trusted partner to African operators looking to deploy LTE backhaul networks.
Huawei's UMTS/LTE-ready IP microwave solution provides up to two Gb/s to each individual operator. The solution is ideal for high-bandwidth LTE backhaul deployment that requires smooth service evolution, rapid deployment, and convenient network management.
Further, the microwave solution also supports simplified clock synchronization and allows unified network management for optical transmission and wireless equipment.
Huawei has also empowered the LTE backhaul networks of top global operators including O2 in Germany, T-Mobile in Austria, and the Saudi Telecom Company (News - Alert) in Saudi Arabia.
In related news, TMCnet reported that Ericsson signed a deal with MTN (News - Alert) Nigeria, a telecom operator in Africa, to deploy a new wireless packet core network technology.
This deal also includes using an end-to-end Quality of Service solution that will power more innovative mobile broadband products.
