Updating the SlingPlayer Mobile to support 3G networks, Sling Media has announced that SlingPlayer Mobile App is now available in the App Store.
Sling Media is a wholly owned subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation and provides video place-shifting products and services for consumers and television service providers.
With SlingPlayer Mobile software, users can watch and control their living room television at any time from any location with access to the Internet and connection to a Slingbox Solo, PRO or PRO HD.
SlingPlayer Mobile App users can change channels, control their DVR and watch their favorite shows, all on the iPhone (News - Alert) or iPod touch. The SlingPlayer Mobile App is available for U.S. $29.99, UK GBP £17.99, and Euro €23.99 from the App Store.
The compatible devices for SlingPlayer Mobile include Windows phone 6.0 and later and a touch screen to use SlingPlayer Mobile 2.0. Windows phone 2003 SE and later can be used to use SlingPlayer Mobile 1.6 and select devices in Palm OS, Symbian OS, BlackBerry (News - Alert) and iPhone and iPod touch.
“We’re delighted the SlingPlayer Mobile App now has 3G capability,” said John Gilmore, senior vice president and general manager at Sling Media. “Slingbox users in many countries around the globe, including the United States, can now enjoy their living room TV experience on their iPhone and iPod touch whether on a 3G or WiFi (News - Alert) network.”
Users can now enjoy live or recorded TV over a WiFi or 3G connection with a Slingbox at home and SlingPlayer Mobile on their compatible phone. The users can also take control of their TV and DVR right from their phone.
The company has entered into a partnership with Adobe, a developer and provider of software solutions and services. Sling Media will offer native support to Adobe Flash Player and Flash streaming protocols within its Slingbox Pro-HD and Slingbox SOLO products. As a result, the company will be able to offer smooth H.264 video and audio to the users through its SlingPlayers.
