By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor
Skyfire (News - Alert) the maker of the award-winning web browser for mobile devices has launched Skyfire Rocket. Skyfire Rocket, a B2B product allows mobile OEMs and Carriers to integrate Skyfire’s famous media and video capabilities with the existing browsers and apps from third parties.
An open standards-based solution to most of the challenges faced with mobile video, like network data congestion, battery life and ability to play the many different formats which are often not compatible on mobile devices, has been offered by Skyfire’s proprietary cloud-computing technology.
Skyfire Rockets offers Adaptive Video Streaming, wherein it transcodes Flash and other media into HTML5 to optimize data delivery based on real-time network conditions. It also offers Data Compression and Optimization, through which it optimizes web video for competent and dependable playback on mobile devices. A Better Battery Life and Power Surfing are also offered by Skyfire Rocket.
The mobile bandwidth, which is required to keep up with the demand of video content on-the-go, is considerably reduced with the usage of Skyfire.
Jeffrey Glueck, CEO of Skyfire proudly says that Skyfire Rocket is the first technology which makes the full Internet browser “network friendly.” Skyfire allows carriers and OEMs to embed its technology into their existing local browsers, rather than replacing them, hence making the deployment of adaptive video data delivery easy.
Upcoming open standards such as html5, webkit, h.264, and http streaming, which includes Flash and other rich media content are all supported by Skyfire Rocket. A bridge between all popular PC web standards and current mobile standards is provided by Skyfire Rocket. For the few "super-phones" which have Flash 10.1 capabilities, Skyfire Rocket improves their performance by can working in tandem with plug-ins.
Skyfire is the creator of the Skyfire mobile browser; its mission is to enable the "full internet" which includes rich media on mobile phones. At the 2009 Webby Awards, Skyfire won the Best Mobile Application-People’s Voice and it was also named a Top App of 2009 by the New York Times’ Gadgetwise. Skyfire is based in the heart of Silicon Valley, at the Mountain View, Calif. For more information, visit www.skyfire.com
