Opanga Networks, an innovator of practical video optimization solutions, recently revealed the conclusion of a Series A investment round. The most recent round, led by Axtel (News - Alert) S.A.B. de C.V, a publicly traded telecommunications company, with participation from Opanga's existing investors, has brought the total investment to $5.5 million.

With the new investment, Opanga can broaden its operations which help operators manage the great increase of video-based data traffic on their networks. Opanga also adds funding to its NetRover suite of patented solutions’ development.

Opanga also announced that Iván Alonso Hernandez, the executive director of innovation and technology at Axtel, has joined its Board of Directors. This announcement is part of the financing round.

Hernandez stated that Opanga has shown an innovative, yet pragmatic approach to deal with the video capacity crisis in the broadband industry. Hernandez is delighted to join the Board of Directors since he believes that the company is well positioned to provide the tools necessary for network operators and media companies to drive revenue growth for wireless services in the future.

Opanga also launched a redesigned and expanded Web site. The Web site was built to help digital TV operators, wireless operators, and media companies better understand the advantages of Opanga's solutions to significantly lessen the negative impact video places on network performance while providing consumers with a better and more reliable video experience.

Based on feedback from Opanga’s customer discussions, the company’s solutions offer a unique way for operators to mitigate network congestion while providing consumers with much better video quality.
