Computer Lab Supports Officescape's Enhanced Telesecure Computing Solution

Computer Lab International or CLI announced its support for Officescape’s (News - Alert) enhanced Telesecure Computing solution.

In a release, Felix Tan, president of Officescape said, “Officescape looks forward to continuing to work with CLI as we offer our Telesecure Computing solution. As one of our long-term hardware partners, CLI consistently provides equipment that meets our needs and those of our clients.”

According to officials Officescape had recently launched an updated version of this innovative security solution and management platform. This leverages the Smart Card and thin client technology for ensuring a secure computing environment that suits teleworkers.

Also the platform serves the needs of identity management issues that result in intrusions and data insecurity while rendering support for users outside their corporate firewalls.

It was revealed that the updated solution adds another layer of security to a typical secure VPN connection. Officescape’s FIPS-compliant Smart Card and TelOffice Box (CLI thin client) allows password encryption before making a VPN connection. This eliminates risks associated with traditional VPN login over WAN.

The two-factor authentication (NIST SP 800-46) ensures proper identity management and access control by leveraging a physical token (Smart Card) and logical token (password or biometric) system before allowing access to servers, emphasized officials.

The two-factor authentication method followed here prevents “virtual fishing” for login credentials as the absence of Smart Card disallows any fraudulent attempt access. Also Officescape’s Smart Card features an encrypted certificate, secure 3DES key and bad password counter file which eliminates tampering incase the card is lost or stolen.

Officials explained that these cards were like Java-based Smart Cards from Sun Micro, and are usable beyond the corporate firewall and with Microsoft .NET (News - Alert) framework.  Officescape’s TelOffice Box thin client, features similar functionality as a traditional PC but is not subjected to remote data storage because it has no hard drive.

The thin client enables virtualization or cloud computing which facilitates access of applications and data which are on the corporate server. CLI supports Officescape’s TelOffice Box solution on its Windows Embedded Standard operating system that is sure to serve the present and future needs of customers.

“The adoption rate of Desktop Virtualization (VDI) is increasing, with many use cases being for telecommuters and users in remote offices. We are delighted to provide Officescape with a solid product and OS platform to develop their TelOffice Box solution,” said Jason Marshall, Technical Director at CLI.

Officescape also announced its platinum sponsorship of Telework Summit 2011, presented by Telework Advocacy. The event focuses on providing attendees with real-world tools and solutions to “take the next steps” toward developing or improving a telework program, reported TMCnet.
