Bandwith.com, a voice peering company that supplies Internet-based voice connections to companies such as Pinger and Skype (News - Alert), has announced it is extending its reach into the availability of 911 calls with the purchase of Dash Carrier Services (News - Alert). 

The transaction amount and details have not been released by either company, although industry projections show that the combined entity could produce revenue beyond $100 million in 2011. One thing known for sure is the voice peering company acquired the Denver-based Dash Carrier Services in an all-cash deal.

With this purchase, Bandwdith.com is able to add 911 calling capability to its suite of VoIP services, which have been ranked No. 14 on the Triangle Business Journal’s 2010 Fast 50 list of the fastest growing privately, help companies operating in the Raleigh-Durham area.

Bandwidth.com (News - Alert) has built its strong business presence on delivering telephone and data connections to corporate customers. In leveraging voice peering capabilities, Bandwidth.com is able to extend communications to clients through more efficient and effective channels.

According to David Morken, CEO of Bandwidth.com in a news release, emergency services are a critical component in the continued growth of the adoption of VoIP services. Users are increasingly expecting their new communication applications to deliver the same reliability and functionality, such as emergency services, as they are used to in their legacy telephony solutions.

Morken also noted that the acquisition of Dash Carrier Services will combine proven technology with Bandwitdth.com’s existing nationwide IP network and services to provide the company with a tremendous advantage in the industry, as well as the necessary assets to continue to push the market forward.

With the purchase of Dash Carrier Services, Bandwidth.com will grow from 165 employees to roughly 200.

In other voice peering news, mobile VoIP is expected to soar beyond the $6 billion mark in 2015, according to officials of research firm In-Stat (News - Alert). One of the key benefits of mobile VoIP for enterprises is extending desk phone functionality to mobile devices, which will help to drive this anticipated growth.
