SRS WOW HD Integrates with Rockwell Collin's dPAVES Airline IFE System

Rockwell Collins has selected SRS Labs (News - Alert) to integrate SRS WOW HD within its second generation dPAVES airline in-flight entertainment (IFE) system.

Thanks to this integration, airline passengers can now enjoy high definition (HD)-quality audio for music and movies and get completely immersed in their in-flight entertainment experience, according to SRS Lab’s officials.

Allen H. Gharapetian, senior vice president of marketing at SRS Labs, said that the company is working with Rockwell Collins to bring its world-class audio enhancement solutions to their in-flight entertainment systems.

The company is confident that airline passengers across the globe will appreciate the added clarity and detail of their overall audio entertainment experience courtesy of our award-winning WOW HD technology, he said.

Gharapetian also said that there are a lot of similarities between Rockwell Collins and SRS Labs given that SRS Labs was spun out of Hughes (News - Alert) Aircraft Corporation and that one of the company’s core technologies was specifically developed for the aerospace industry to improve voice communications between pilots.

In order to provide an uncompromised audio experience over headphones, SRS WOW HD optimizes multimedia files. Company officials said that this is done via dynamically enhanced bass, greater high-frequency clarity and a remarkably natural and enveloping surround sound stage.

Additionally, the patented techniques within SRS WOW HD bring out the subtle nuances and buried sound within the source material, delivering a fuller, richer and more natural audio experience.

Provided by SRS WOW HD, the virtual surround sound is integrated into Rockwell Collins’ dPAVES high-definition media server (HDMS). Company officials said that that this fully immerses passengers in a theater-like experience that is tunable to any headset.

“WOW HD’s ‘on the fly’ processing allows any media file type to be output with virtual surround sound over headphones – a first for the industry – giving passengers a consistent HD entertainment experience,” said Dave Austin, vice president and general manager for Cabin Systems at Rockwell Collins.

Earlier last month, SRS Labs signed an agreement with Spice Mobility, an India-based mobile brand, to incorporate SRS WOW HD, an audio enhancement solution, within their feature phones starting with the new Cappuccino model.
