Huawei Extends License with SPIRIT DSP for Wideband Mobile VoIP and Video Calling

Telecommunications equipment provider Huawei Technologies has extended its license with SPIRIT DSP for wideband Mobile VoIP and video calling.

SPIRIT DSP is a voice and video over IP engines provider. As per the terms of the agreement, Huawei (News - Alert), an existing SPIRIT customer since 2007, has licensed SPIRIT’s TeamSpirit Voice & Video Engine Mobile.

Huawei has again “chosen SPIRIT's product to deliver superior quality mobile communication solutions to service providers who are looking to capitalize on this rapidly growing market and differentiate their offerings with quality and time to market,” said Andrew Sviridenko, chairman of SPIRIT.

Increasingly, 3G and 4G smartphone devices are becoming popular. Also, there is the emergence of applications and faster connectivity and the increasing popularity of tablet PCs – which is quickly becoming one of the most prominent business collaboration tools. All these factors are making SPIRIT’s TeamSpirit Voice & Video Engine an ideal platform for developing applications that incorporate real-time, VoIP and videoconferencing.

A SDK for real-time IP calling/conferencing communications, TeamSpirit Voice and Video Engine allows application developers and service providers to offer superior quality communications products to millions of global users.

Company officials said that TeamSpirit Engine software combines scalable echo- and noise-free audio with scalable video. Plus, TeamSpirit enables many hours of battery life in wideband talk mode.

Also, the voice engine includes optimized standard voice codecs and a patent-free wideband error-resilient scalable SPIRIT IP-MR voice codec (IETF RFC 6262). Company officials said that the video engine features SPIRIT's H.264 scalable video codec that is able to adapt streams to each peer's network and PC environments without heavy transcoding. Moreover, it includes a multi-component stream protection module that compensates for network jitter and packet loss.

Last month, SPIRIT DSP (News - Alert) announced that KT (News - Alert), a telecom operator in Korea, licensed the company's TeamSpirit Voice Engine Mobile.
