Acme Packet Surpasses 1,000 Customers

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Acme Packet, a major player in session border control solutions, has reached two significant milestones with the acquisition of its 1,000th end customer and shipment of its 10,000th Net-Net session border controller “SBC.”

The company has achieved a 48 percent growth in customer base in the last 12 months and, according to officials with Acme Packet (News - Alert), the 1,000th end customer, an enterprise healthcare services organization, demonstrates the growing trend within enterprise, contact center and government organizations of deploying SBCs to help them meet critical security, interoperability, service assurance and regulatory compliance challenges as they accelerate their adoption of IP-based interactive communications.

Company officials said the organization is using Acme Packet Net-Net SBCs to secure network resources and enable seamless communications across network borders between its internal network and PAETEC (News - Alert)'s SIP trunking service network.

In the last two years, Acme Packet has doubled the number of Net-Net SBCs deployed due to a broad set of emerging, market driving services for wireline, wireless and cable service providers around the world.

These services, including enterprise SIP trunking, hosted residential and business services, IP interconnects/peering, and over-the-top services have created new business opportunities for service providers, which in turn, rely on Acme Packet to securely deliver their services across both access and interconnect border points.

'Over the past several years, we've seen a dramatic growth in our advanced, SIP-Trunking products throughout our entire customer base,' said Sanjay Hiranandani, senior vice president of engineering at PAETEC.

'Acme Packet is moving into a new phase of growth as mass market adoption of SBCs by both enterprises and service providers takes hold,' also said Andy Ory, president, CEO and co-founder of Acme Packet.

Ory also noted that new services and applications such as enterprise unified communications, video conferencing, enterprise federation, HD voice, SIP/RCS services over 3G and LTE (News - Alert), and fixed-mobile convergence are only in the very early stages of trials and initial deployments.
