Demand for VoIP Gateways Drives Patton Success

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

The demand for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) continues to grow as businesses recognize the cost and efficiency benefits, and consumers begin to demand access via mobile devices. This growth is also creating opportunities in the VoIP gateways space, driving revenue streams for Patton (News - Alert) Electronic Company.

There are two main uses for VoIP gateways and Patton has its best selling products in the VoIP sector, according to Patton interview. VoIP gateways are devices that cover telephony traffic into IP for transmission use over an existing information network. This can be done by converting the incoming PSTN/telephone lines to a VoIP system or by connecting the traditional phone system or PBX (News - Alert) to an IP network.

Based in Baltimore, Patton isn’t your run-of-the-mill local shop with global customers. Patton serves customers in 125 countries. That’s a far cry from its roots as an entrepreneurial dream by two brothers in a college dormitory. A majority of Patton’s VoIP gateways sales are international, made possible by the family’s entrepreneurial spirit as well as several United States governmental agencies.

The company has grown steadily over the years. VoIP gateways initially were a small portion of the business as the market has yet to expand. Today, international revenues from this division are generating about 70 percent of the company’s business. Active channels and resale channels are committed to sales in more than 120 countries around the world.

Co-owner Bobby Patton, said that he and his business partner simply set up shows on every continent that had a city. They opened up the communications channels and started selling products to those particular markets – providing access to VoIP gateways where the need was already created.Patton says that U.S. brand recognition is respected around the world.

Products and services from the U.S. are perceived to be of the best quality and are respected in a majority of markets. VoIP gateways, when used on telephone lines, gives users the ease of placing and receiving calls on the telephony network. Many businesses find it more convenient to continue with their traditional phone line system, focusing on guaranteeing the highest call quality and agent availability.

When it comes to PBX systems, VoIP gateways conceive all calls through the VoIP software. Companies with multiple offices benefit the most from VoIP gateways. Given the growth in acquisitions throughout multiple industries, the number of companies operating multiple locations continues to grow. As a result, so does the demand for VoIP gateways. Fortunately, Patton is ready to meet that demand, enjoying the fruits of market opportunity along the way.
