Netgear’s (News - Alert) most advanced DOCSIS already was a best-in-class performer, but new certification has made it an even stronger choice for service providers.
The CG4500TM Voice/ Data Gateway (News - Alert) DOCSIS by Netgear has received CableLabs DOCSIS 3.0 certification. The certification provides cable modem equipment suppliers with a fast, market-oriented method for attaining cable industry acknowledgment of DOCSIS compliance, according to CableLabs. Cable operators and CableLabs (News - Alert) require interoperability among DOCSIS modems, and certification by CableLabs stamps the CG4500TM as fully interoperable with the current standards.
“Certifications from industry standard organizations are key to ensuring that service providers’ high standards for reliability, interoperability and performance are met,” noted Jeff Heynen in the news release by Netgear, directing analyst for broadband access and video for international market research firm Infonetics (News - Alert).
“Through this CableLabs certified 24 x 4 gateway, Netgear continues to demonstrate a singular focus on providing innovative, high-performance, standards-based products for service providers and other customers,” he added.
What makes the CG4500TM special is its 24 x4 channel bonding, concurrent dual band wireless, and its integrated MoCA support.
Service providers are rapidly growing access bandwidth, and Multi-System Operators (MSOs) are facing a challenging competitive environment. A 24x4 channel bonded DOCSIS gateway gives MSOs a solution to address this threat, as do options such as the SmartNode VoIP solutions offered by Patton Electronics.
The CG4500TM also enables MSOs to accelerate their migration to an all-IP access network. The CG4500TM offers up to 1Gbps throughput, making the gateway three times faster than any DOCSIS available in the market today, according to Netgear.
With many connected media devices now used within the home, the CG4500TM also supports operator’s multi-screen initiatives with concurrent dual band wireless. The CG4500TM offers high-performance dual-band concurrent 802.11n wireless networking. It gives to 900Mbps (450+450 Mbps) aggregate speed and with simultaneous dual-band technology, according to Netgear, which helps mitigate interference and ensures sustained throughput and reliable connections.
The CG4500TM gateway also comes with integrated MoCA, the preferred technology choice for MSOs to reliably connect devices within the home. With the gateway, it is possible to offer seamless data and video distribution over the in-home coaxial cable network.
It comes with two RJ11 ports that support packet cable and one USB 2.0 host port.
