With 2013 around the corner, VoIP Insider has just released its list of the top 10 voice-over-IP (VoIP) products of the past year. The products this year range from corded IP deskphone to VoIP gateways such as Patton (News - Alert) Electronics’ SmartNode.
Video conferencing was big in 2012, according to VoIP Insider, and 2013 will be even bigger for video solutions.
“Video communications are not going anywhere, in fact in 2013 one of the top trends is less business travel and more meetings supplemented by video conferencing,” noted VoIP Insider.
Two video conferencing products that stood out in 2012 were the Cisco (News - Alert) C20 and the Logitech BCC950 telepresence systems.
“Set it up in any room where you desire telepresence. Use it with any LCD or plasma display. Within minutes you will be using video conferencing in point to point situations with any standards based video conferencing endpoint,” VoIP Insider enthused about the Cisco Quickset C20. As a desktop solution, they also really liked the Logitech BCC950.
VoIP gateways have been becoming increasingly important, and the technology has continued to evolve.
Many VoIP gateways will help bridge the VoIP network with a company’s PSTN, noted VoIP Inside. “What sets them apart now is customer service and support.”
That is where Patton’s line of VoIP gateways shines, and why the Patton VoIP gateways are some of the best VoIP products of 2012.
“Patton offers FREE pre and post sales support and their customer service is second to none,” wrote VoIp Insider. “Other gateway manufacturers offer supplemental support packages that are sometimes as much or more than the cost of the gateway itself! For a lower TCO, businesses are turning to Patton gateways more and more.”
A number of IP phones make the list for 2012, not surprisingly. Among those that the site likes include the RCA VoIP Phones, Cisco SPA112 and SPA122, Panasonic (News - Alert) KX-TGP550 and KX-TPA50, Polycom VVX 500, Grandstream GXP2200, and the Digium Phones.
The Grandstream GXP2200 is particularly interesting.
“Smartphones are the interface everyone is used to, and the name of the game is ‘similar user experience,’” noted VoIP Insider. “The Grandstream GXP2200 is a 6 line multimedia IP phone which runs on the Android 2.3 Operating system. All the business features of a Grandstream phone plus the user defined features of the Android App Marketplace such as Google Voice, Facebook, and Twitter” are included with the Grandstream.
Finally, the site also thinks the Elastix PBX (News - Alert) Appliance is one of the top VoIP products of 2012.
“With the programming of Trixbox CE halted, Elastix has become the favorite free distribution of Asterisk,” noted the site. “The hardest part of using free distributions is getting a hardware platform that it works seamlessly on. VoIP Supply has introduced to North America the Elastix mini and ELX-025 1U appliances that come preloaded with Elastix software and work right out of the box.”
