The tagline of this year’s Interop event was “Building IT Innovation,” and there were certainly many innovative companies present at the Las Vegas show. One such company was iPass, which was present to promote its Unity Network Services. While at the show, TMC CEO Rich Tehrani spoke with Christopher Linden (News - Alert), VP & GM at iPass, about this division of the company, and the future of the space.
Linden pointed out that, at its core, iPass is a Wi-Fi company. To that end, it deals with many of the biggest trends in the mobility space today, such as BYOD. Its mission is to deliver high speed, highly secure WAN and Wi-Fi services to enterprise customers.
To that end, iPass (News - Alert) boasts a managed services division (the newly rebranded iPass Unity Network Services), which was a major focus at the show. Linden emphasized how this unit will build, deliver, manage and architect WAN and truly usable Wi-Fi services for enterprise customers.
He stated that there was a lot of great traffic at the iPass booth, stating that people are “trying to figure out how to build a better next generation network. With all these IP devices that are coming into our daily lives – two, three, four, five, six different IP devices that people are starting to carry around with them -- I think that they’re trying to find a way to create higher speed networks, better managed networks, better managed Wi-Fi networks, better services to deliver for their customers. It’s exciting to have a solution that fits that bill." While the thought of six different IP devices may seem shocking at first, it's really a conservative estimate. One might have a tablet, smartphone, laptop, smartwatch, Google (News - Alert) Glass, IP devices in shoes or bracelets for runners, healthcare monitors in pendants and even golf-speed swing devices!
Security was a big topic of conversation at the show, and Linden stated that iPass has a series of solutions that address security concerns, from the edge to PCI (News - Alert) compliance. As for the future, iPass will continue to help customers scale, meeting the challenges that the growing number of IP devices poses, and helping customers grow and monetize their Wi-Fi networks.
