CSR (News - Alert), a provider of silicon and software solutions for the location-aware, media-rich, cloud-connected world, has just revealed that its Bluetooth technology is now delivering wireless connectivity in a smartphone remote control from LG Electronics (News - Alert).
LG Electronics has selected CSR µEnergy, the low energy technology for Bluetooth Smart connectivity, as an accessory for its new flagship Android (News - Alert) smartphone. Optimus VU2, the LG One Key remote, relies on a CSR1000 single-mode Bluetooth low energy solution to achieve Bluetooth Smart wireless connectivity.
Some of the innovative capabilities of Optimus VU2 include the ability to trigger the smartphone's camera shutter to make taking self-portraits and group photos a snap, as well as remotely controlling music selection and playback while the smartphone is sitting in a speaker dock.
Thanks to the power efficiency of the µEnergy platform, consumers can enjoy using the LG One Key remote for years on a single coin cell battery. The remote provides a complete, optimized, low-energy solution with RF, baseband, microcontroller, qualified Bluetooth v4.0 stack and customer application running on a single chip.
Paul Williamson, director of µEnergy Marketing, CSR, said in a statement, "LG is clearly at the forefront of the emerging Bluetooth Smart revolution, and we are excited that this Tier-One OEM chose our µEnergy platform to power this groundbreaking accessory for their flagship Android smartphone."
CSR worked closely with LG software developers to create the unique capabilities of the LG One Key remote. CSR µEnergy SDK provides support for a broad range of accessories out of the box with the flexibility to innovate by easily adding features when developing new accessories.
Further, the CSR µEnergy platform is optimized to support only Bluetooth low energy features, allowing products to be tiny, cost-effective and power efficient. They may be used in simple sensors such as step-counting foot pods, heart rate monitors or key fobs, as well as in more complex low-power devices such as watches and keyboards.
