The Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), a premier conference center in the UK, is expanding, and therefore needs to ensure optimal connectivity in an environment with high Wi-Fi density. For that, it turned to ADTRAN.
ADTRAN’s Bluesocket (News - Alert) virtual wireless LAN (vWLAN) solution is being deployed as part of the expansion and renovation. With it, the EICC will achieve a fault tolerant Wi-Fi environment so that all exhibitors, guests and staff can access the Internet without lag or losing a connection.
ADTRAN’s (News - Alert) Bluesockat vWLAN solution puts virtualized WLAN control and management in software in the cloud. As such, EICC can avoid the usual constraints that hardware-based controller solutions come with. As the vWLAN control and management software can be located independently of the Bluesocket access points, network demands can be addressed in real-time with ease, supporting up to ten times the number of access points as that of one that is hardware-based.
As a result of ADTRAN’s vWLAN, EICC is seeing a reduced cost of ownership with simplified administration, greater scalability and increased capacity. By eliminating Wi-Fi hardware controllers, it is even saving up to 80 percent of its wireless network’s energy consumption, ultimately saving power and going green in the process.
“This deployment, within a very dense and demanding environment, further validates vWLAN’s key advantages over hardware-based controller solutions,” explains Chris Koeneman (News - Alert), ADTRAN’s Bluesocket Business Group’s VP of sales. “When an organization has the scaling and flexibility needs that EICC has, a software-based virtual WLAN solution provides the best opportunity to address network demands while lowering TCO, maximizing resources and fulfilling energy efficiency initiatives.”
This is quite an accomplishment for ADTRAN, but it will be particularly beneficial for EICC and any attendees at the many conferences there. The improved connectivity across the new additions to the center will allow for a quality internet connection even at crowded events, keeping people satisfied and connected.
