Wireless Connectivity

As we quickly get closer to the supposed day the world will end—December 21, 2012—the city of Richardson (News - Alert) in Texas doesn’t seem to be too phased and has recently revamped its wireless connectivity solutions by teaming with Alvarion (News - Alert), a provider of wireless broadband solutions that are created to overcome an array of challenges typically seen within public and private networks alike.

In fact, the city is now powering the Alvarion Smart City solution that will hopefully enable the metropolis to make it much easier for residents to connect to the Internet no matter where they are physically located or what time is it. This will especially benefit those who commute on a daily basis and travel to what is coined the nation's Telecom Corridor continuously.

After looking at other wireless connectivity products on the market, Alvarion's BreezeMAX Extreme was ultimately chosen do its high level of reliability in addition to the unparalleled level of efficiency that was proven during its testing phase within the location.

"During our requisite proof of concept process we were originally looking at various mesh solutions. We quickly realized that the only equipment that offered us the non-stop reliability we require is the BreezeMAX Extreme and so we went for an end-to-end Alvarion wireless broadband network," stated Steve Graves, chief information officer with the City of Richardson. "We are very excited about this project and more so to be going ahead with an Alvarion solution that is founded on solid technologies working together to meet our ongoing needs and budgetary constraints."

The Alvarion Smart City offering will be seamlessly integrated with the city's video surveillance network that powers feeds directly to police headquarters and its around the clock emergency operations center. Not only with this solution dramatically increase the quality of these recordings that are not only used to safe lives but catch criminals as well, it will also enable law enforcement teams to watch them with only a PC monitor in tow.

It’s not hard to see why wireless connectivity solutions are continuing to be adopted by organizations in virtually every industry as nowadays employees are demanding improved mobility to be just as productive on-the-go as they would be in their office setting.

Only back in November, Alvarion was highlighted when it was selected by Internet Technologies Group (ITG) of Africa to upgrade the broadband services offered by its subsidiaries in the region. Under the agreement between the two companies, Alvarion provides wireless broadband connectivity for three of its subsidiaries, Internet Technologies Angola, Internet Technologies Namibia and Internet Technologies Zambia.
