United Oil, an oil company based in Gardena, Calif., is one of the latest companies to begin to leverage 4G wireless connectivity services from Verizon (News - Alert).
The company has selected the Verizon 4G service complete with Cradlepoint routers as well as moved its credit card payment processing over to the 4G wireless connection to ensure payment card industry (PCI) compliance.
Verizon Wireless (News - Alert) operates the nation's largest 4G LTE network. The company's 4G LTE high-speed data network allows customers to surf the Web, download large files, and share music and photos at speeds up to ten times faster than before. In fact, the LTE (News - Alert) network is available to close to 89 percent of the U.S. population and in 476 markets across the country, supporting a wide variety of 4G LTE-enabled devices ranging from tablets and mobile hotspots to the latest smartphones and more.
United Oil turned to Verizon’s wireless connectivity to improve communications between its 127 gas stations and convenience stores to its corporate headquarters. The oil firm was earlier using DSL Internet lines and saw that its communications quality varied from location to location. That is when the company ultimately decided to switch to the Verizon 4G service with Cradlepoint routers.
"We knew that we wanted to get off DSL and there were a number of vendors that we looked at in making the decision to move to 4G," United Oil's Director of Technology, Bill De La Espriella, said in a statement. "But in the end, the Cradlepoint and Verizon team was able to bring to us the technology expertise and resources that enabled us to do what we wanted to do."
By selecting the Verizon 4G wireless connectivity service, the oil firm not only improved communications but also met the PCI (News - Alert) requirements for credit card transactions. With the company’s decision to move the credit card payment processing over to the 4G wireless connection, the company is even able to process the transactions over wireless broadband at some locations.
