Wireless Management

Meru Networks (News - Alert) has announced that Farmington Municipal School District in New Mexico has selected the company’s Wi-Fi networks for a district-wide wireless LAN for numerous students, teachers and staff in over 18 schools.

Meru offers the WLAN equipment and management software schools need for classroom and campus coverage, secure guest access, and multimedia support for video and audio learning applications for schools that need to provide pervasive Wi-Fi connectivity to support the flood of Wi-Fi devices from BYOD.

Charles Thacker, director of technology, said that Meru has provided higher student engagement, improved teaching ability and enhanced availability of productivity tools to the fast, reliable wireless network. The school district found considerable value in the Meru Wi-Fi solution to look after an influx of devices and peak traffic periods, realizing that login delays and connectivity issues would put off students and teachers.

More than 10,000 students and 1,200 staff members are enabled by Meru's Wi-Fi solution for Farmington School Municipal District. Connected to 285 remote access points, the wireless LAN includes three MC3000 series controllers located centrally.

“We regularly hear stories from satisfied customers like this one from Farmington Municipal School District,” said Sarosh Vesuna, general manager of education, Meru Networks. “Education is increasingly dynamic these days, and schools need a wireless solution that will connect their students - to teaching materials and projects through a reliable wireless network. With Meru Networks, the Farmington District provides an interactive learning environment, which, we believe, breeds creativity and determination.”

In 2010, U.S.-based College of William and Mary University announced that it has installed Aerohive’s enterprise-class wireless solution in it’s new, three-story, 166,000-square-foot facility that houses the school’s Mason School of Business.
