Provider of cloud connectivity, enterprise communications and virtual mobility solutions, ADTRAN, recently integrated multi tenancy capabilities into its network virtualization solutions for wireless LAN (WLAN), the Bluesocket (News - Alert) virtual Wireless LAN (vWLAN) solution. Targeted at managed service and solution providers that require the operational flexibility necessary to support multiple customers within a single virtualized controller, Bluesocket enhanced with multi tenancy provides a much improved method to deploy hosted WLAN offerings.
Bluesocket is a hypervisor-based WLAN enabling the delivery of powerful cloud services, while leveraging the benefits of network virtualization and a distributed data plane. In other words, Bluesocket vWLAN allows control and management of a WLAN to reside on the cloud rather than on LAN access points. Combining this ability with the newly integrated multi tenancy capability allows managed service providers to quickly create a hosted WLAN and respond to customer demands.
Typically, service providers that want to deliver hosted or managed cloud-based WLAN services must deal with expensive start-up costs, as well as operational constraints, as conventional WLAN systems require dedicated, isolated hardware. ADTRAN's (News - Alert) vWLAN offering, however, bypasses these challenges with a software-based control and management solution which can be sub divided, allowing multiple tenants to securely occupy a single virtual instance.
"The challenge for service providers, including MSPs, today is how to cost-effectively scale their offerings when every customer must be treated the same in terms of access, priorities and service assurance," said Mike Sapien, principal analyst at Ovum (News - Alert). "ADTRAN's Bluesocket multi-tenant solution tackles this issue by enabling service providers to configure each customer on the virtual Wireless LAN independently of any others, whether this customer is in a shared campus environment, independent department by department separation or another geographic region."
Key features of ADTRAN's Bluesocket vWLAN solution include: easy setup, maintenance and control via a browser-based interface; simplified role-based views; complete tenant isolation in key areas — configuration, security, mobility and reporting; and custom branding.
ADTRAN also recently added system-level vectoring to its comprehensive global broadband portfolio as well as debuted ActivReach, an Ethernet technology that can support various types of wiring, while enhancing service reach by up to three times the range of traditional Ethernet offerings.
