Microsemi (News
- Alert) Corporation, specializing in secure and reliable semiconductor solutions, debuted a 5 GHz LX5509 power amplifier (PA) for IEEE 802.11ac wireless access points and media devices.
The company delivers semiconductor and system solutions for communications, defense and security, aerospace and industrial markets. Products are radiation-hardened and highly reliable analog mixed-signal integrated circuits.
The LX5509 power amplifier is capable of transmitting at similar power levels in both IEEE (News - Alert) 802.11n and IEEE 802.11ac networks, and hence extends the high data rate range, optimizing system performance.
Amir Asvadi, vice president and general manager of Microsemi’s Analog and Mixed Signal group remarked, “Our new PA is the second in a series of devices we are introducing to accelerate the proliferation of the next-generation Wi-Fi standard.
“We will continue to focus on strengthening our 802.11ac portfolio with industry-leading solutions and partnering with world-class WLAN manufacturers to deliver circuits that provide the highest system performance,” Asvadi added.
The powerful LX5509 also features a standardized pin out, allowing customers to upgrade the performance level in their systems without layout changes.
The upgrade can involve higher power 5 GHz PAs that are being developed at Microsemi, said officials.
Microsemi’s 802.11ac solution encompasses the LX5586, a monolithic silicon germanium (SiGe) RF front-end (FE) device which can work in tandem with Broadcom’s (News
- Alert) BCM4335 combo chip for mobile platforms.
Microsemi already provides a broad portfolio of IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n solutions like power amplifiers, low noise amplifiers, front-end modules and reference designs.
The remarkable features of LX5509 include 5 GHz operation; linear output power of 19dBm for IEEE 802.11ac 256-QAM 80MHz; linear output power of 20dBm for IEEE 802.11n 64-QAM 20MHz; 28dB OFDM power gain and 50-ohm input and output match.
The device also has an integrated harmonic filter and output detector, with a temperature-compensated on-chip output power detector with wide dynamic range.
Recently, Microsemi added the Extended Flow (E Flow) to its RT ProASIC3 field programmable gate array (FPGA) device family, providing additional screening options and a higher level of reliability assurance required in many critical space applications.
