Formed around 10 years ago, with around 1,700 employees and headquarters in San Francisco, Calif., Riverbed (News - Alert) focuses heavily on the performance space specifically networking WAN optimization that assists companies in significantly increasing efficiency and reducing costs.
With the Steelhead product line, the core of its business today, Riverbed has also expanded in other directions including WAN optimization in the cloud which gives users access to the public cloud much faster, as well as has enabled users to do backup faster and more securely with the Whitewater disaster recovery offering. These products now encompass Granite, which is in essence centralized data that can be accessed in remote locations. Also, the Stingray Product Family powers an advanced form of load balancing which drives performance in addition to increasing the overall user experience. For public and ecommerce websites, this means much faster and more efficient access that will route potential customers to the best resource that will serve their individual environment.
Nik Rouda (News - Alert), senior director of Solutions and Verticals at Riverbed said, “Steelhead pays for itself in under seven months as well as dramatically improves visibility which assists organizations in fixing problems in around two hours. It also offers a much higher level of flexibility for the environment, as well as puts resources where it makes the most sense to IT.”
With over 17,000 customers in different industries, the company can help everyone who is running things on networks over long distances or who simply want to see better performance from their current IT infrastructure. At this time, over 80 percent of Fortune 500 firms utilize Riverbed’s solutions.
Just this year, the Granite products were unveiled and results have proven successful in that small time period. Rouda added, “We are seeing extremely positive results, with organizations saving up to 50 percent of costs and gaining access to files that used to take two hours and now has been reduced to under two minutes. It gives users the ability to pull a lot of resources back to the data center and makes it much more secure and easier to manage.”
Riverbed has also extended its Steelhead family to now include the Steelhead Cloud Accelerator. The Stingray Application Family encompasses Web content optimization that makes the network more efficient and gives users an unparalleled level of control as it looks at the payload itself, give users faster page loads, and can be scaled up and scale down on the fly.
In regards to challenges currently going on in the space, Rouda stated, “IT is about change and innovation and the feeling now is that change is happening quicker than ever before. Trends including cloud computing, BYOD and big data are all prompting implications to come where users want to see more performance out of the existing environment while simultaneously leveraging different and new technologies more efficiently.”
“Without a high level of performance, users wouldn’t want it—hence its performance without compromise,” Rouda concluded.
