Digital Creative Agency Streamlines Communications with ADTRAN WLAN
By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Mobility in the market today appears to be a consumer trend, yet professionals holding positions throughout the enterprise are now in need of access to the network and the Internet while on the go or working in a remote office. Access to Wi-Fi is key, while IT departments must also protect those connections between the mobile devices and the internal network. To address these issues, many an enterprise has turned to ADTRAN (News - Alert).
ADTRAN, Inc., is one of the top providers of networking and communications equipment that enterprises around the globe use. With more than 1,700 solutions, including WLAN, carriers large and small depend on ADTRAN for their communication needs. Poke, a digital creative agency, is one of those companies.
Poke had a challenge that needed resolution, according to this case study. The company needed a solution that would give their employees access to reliable Wi-Fi without the hassle of investing in a large amount of hardware. To stay on a growth track that was already put in place, Poke needed a scalable solution that could extend out to a growing number of employees in a growing number of offices.
With the WLAN solution from ADTRAN, Poke was able to meet those needs. The solution started with a software-based control system that was centralized and could be used on existing infrastructure. Bluesocket (News - Alert) access points (using the Bluesocket 1800 and Bluesocket 1840 products from ADTRAN) carried the Wi-Fi reliably throughout the complex.
Through ADTRAN’s WLAN solution, Poke employees were able to increase their productivity and efficiency while the company saved money. Furthermore, Poke was able to extend guest access identification that helped secure the network while allowing visitors access when needed.
Poke is known by many in the fashion industry as the first company to provide a YouTube (News - Alert) fashion boutique. It also earned distinction for making the Guinness Book of World Records for posting a photo that has been tagged by more people than any other photo. The company grew from five to 60 in short order and needed a WLAN upgrade to ensure consistent operation and performance.
Upgrading the WLAN also provided another benefit in that it became easy for administrators to manage and create new logins. The software that comes with the WLAN allows administrators to easily manage and control the network processes.
In many other WLAN solutions, companies have to go through a third party to gain the same level of manageability. From guest logins to customized logins, Poke administrators could now create any number of logins and use the main SSID to make internal accounts. If a guest was using the network for a short period of time, a login could be created with an expiration date.
After installing the WLAN from ADTRAN, the connectivity became seamless across the entire office. While roaming throughout their location once caused connections to drop, employees could now roam without worry that their communications would be interrupted thanks to the new WLAN installation. Employees can go from one floor to another and keep their connection and stay productive.
