In a recent video, Aruba Networks (News
- Alert) compares setting up an enterprise wireless WLAN using its Aruba Instant product with the time it takes to make toast.
As if that kind of easy setup was not impressive enough, last week Aruba added new features to its products, Aruba Instant Enterprise and Aruba Activate.
Aruba Instant virtualizes Aruba Mobility Controller capabilities on 802.11n access points (APs), creating a feature-rich enterprise-grade wireless WLAN that combines unmatched affordability and configuration simplicity, according to the company.
The just-unveiled Aruba Instant Enterprise delivers a controller-less Wi-Fi solution with best-in-class security, resiliency and scale for distributed enterprises, according to Aruba. Physical or virtual controllers are not required.
Instant Enterprise provides enterprise-class Wi-Fi features including voice and video optimization, integrated spectrum analysis, advanced security, layer 3 roaming and support for Apple AirPlay (News - Alert) and AirPrint.
Also unveiled last week was Aruba Activate, a cloud-based, zero-touch provisioning service that gives IT, managed service providers and resellers can use to substantially reduce the operational expenses associated with large scale, distributed Wi-Fi deployments, according to the company.
Aruba Instant APs can be factory-shipped to any office worldwide, the company reported, and once the AP is plugged in, it automatically downloads the appropriate configuration, eliminating the need for onsite technical assistance and cutting deployment time by up to 65 percent.
Aruba claims that together the two new services lower branch Wi-Fi total cost of ownership by up to 42 percent when compared with Cisco (News

“With Aruba Instant Enterprise, we are taking a decade’s worth of innovation designed for large, mission-critical campus environments and delivering this value very cost effectively, across any distributed enterprise environment,” said Ben Gibson (News - Alert) in a statement, chief marketing officer for Aruba Networks.
One Aruba client that has already begun using Instant Enterprise is digital printing services firm, Mimeo. It is using Instant Enterprise in its New York headquarters with good results.
“Aruba’s Instant APs are an ideal, low-cost, high-performance solution for our production and office environments,” said Shawn Winters, director of IT operations for Mimeo, in a statement. “Our enterprise-class Instant AP deployment provides reliable and secure Wi-Fi coverage in over 200,000 square feet, and supports our employees who rely on applications such as Apple FaceTime to do their jobs.”
Aruba Instant Enterprise and Aruba Activate come free to existing Aruba Instant customers and are available now.
