A provider of cloud connectivity, enterprise communications and virtual mobility solutions, ADTRAN (News - Alert) today introduced ActivReach.
ActivReach is reportedly the industry's first Ethernet technology that supports all grades of wiring, while extending service reach more than three times beyond the limits of standard Ethernet and delivering high-speed voice, data and Power over Ethernet (PoE) in a single device.
ActivReach has already been implemented in ADTRAN's new NetVanta 1535P Gigabit Ethernet switch, designed to provide businesses and services providers with optimal flexibility when designing networks across long distances of CAT3, CAT5 and CAT6 cable. As such, this breakthrough is capable of allowing businesses worldwide to use their current voice-grade wiring infrastructure to access IP-based voice, hosted services and cloud-based unified communications as well as achieve data speeds up to 100Mbps.
To put this in perspective, many older office buildings, schools, hospitals and the like only have CAT3 or voice-grade cabling infrastructure, which could previously only operate legacy phone systems, as this cabling is unsuitable for traditional Ethernet.
In order to take advantage of newer IP voice and data network capabilities, businesses would then have to run new cable to enable these services. Obviously, this can be quite expensive.
ActivReach is the ideal solution for such businesses and organizations, providing access with the latest technologies quickly, easily and cost effectively.
"Our business customers that reside in these older buildings have told us time and time again that re-cabling costs are a significant barrier in their ability to adopt our hosted service offerings. Despite the overall total cost-of-ownership benefits that VoIP can offer them, they back away from the service because the initial investment is just too much," said Mark Stappenbeck, senior manager of business development for Windstream (News - Alert)-Allworx. "ADTRAN’s ActivReach-enabled NetVanta 1535P Gigabit Ethernet switch delivers 100 Mbps over existing cable plant infrastructure, allowing us to offer flawless voice quality without impacting the existing data network."
In other news, ADTRAN recently partnered with NEM Technology in which the former company provided the latter with access to over 1,700 industry solutions.
Just as well, ADTRAN's Optical Networking Edge (ONE) solution received the 2011 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award from TMC.
