The VoiceXML (News - Alert) Forum, an industry trade organization that promotes the adoption of VoiceXML-based applications, has named Dan Burnett, Voxeo's Director of Speech Technologies, as one of its board directors for the 2011-2012 term.

The forum asserted that it is delighted to have a veteran like Burnett as part of the VoiceXML Forum's Board of Directors. Burnett’s extensive technology experience and knowledge of the industry makes him an ideal fit for the organization.

The VoiceXML Forum works to certify VoiceXML platforms, to collaborate with standards organizations, and to create publications, including requirements, best practices, and use cases. Its mission is to make it easier to develop, deploy, and experience VoiceXML applications.

Along with Burnett, the Forum's new Board of Directors is comprised of Bruce Pollock (Chair), West Interactive Corporation; Rob Marchand (Vice-Chair), Genesys Telecommunication Laboratories; Val Matula (Treasurer), Avaya (News - Alert), Inc.; Paolo Baggia, Loquendo, and Kevin Chatow, Nuance.

Burnett commented that VoiceXML Forum has made tremendous strides in the industry and Voxeo (News - Alert) is honored to support them at this level and is looking forward to collaborating with this incredible group of people to keep the organization moving forward and help them fulfill their mission to promote and accelerate the worldwide adoption of VoiceXML-based applications.

Burnett is responsible for all of Voxeo’s speech recognition products and research and leads the research, development and implementation of the company's own speech recognition and text-to-speech products, and integrates technology from leading speech recognition providers. Burnett acquired his Ph.D. in computer science from the Center for Spoken Language Research at the Oregon Graduate Institute (OGI) School of Science and Engineering.

Prior to joining Voxeo, Burnett served as senior member of the technical staffs at SBC Labs, Nuance and Vocalocity and is regarded as one of the most effective standards leaders in the Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C (News - Alert)).
